Sara D. Davis is an accomplished freelance photographer with experience in newspaper photojournalism. Her awards stretch the gamut from sports to daily life. Having graduated from the prestigious Ohio University's School of Visual Communications, Sara earned a four-year degree in photojournalism taught by renowned editors and photographers.

Having grown-up in the mid-west and worked at papers across Ohio and Indiana, Sara wanted to expand her horizons and moved south. The cultural mix of ideas and lifestyles has provided Sara with a more diverse platform for her work.

Along the way, Sara has jumped into hurricane force winds and jumped over Hurricane hockey fans after their Stanley Cup win. She has shared in an egg salad brunch after her photo shoot with Maya Angelou, and thrown water into golf legend Nick Price's face. She has played army with the Army, and flown circles in a WWII fighter plane. She has viewed the Hatteras lighthouse from a Blackhawk helicopter and seen sea creatures yet to be identified eighty miles off the coast. She has flashed her car headlights in Morse code to be let into an SBI office, and she has flashed her credentials at several Final Fours.

After having slept in a homeless shelter to document the conditions Sara's work encouraged the city to begin construction on a new facility. She has revealed doctors offering free services to the uninsured and her profile of pharmacists illegally mixing drugs led to stricter federal regulations.

Sara recently accepted the staff photographer postion for the 2009 American Dance Festival in Durham,NC. After a successful first season in 2008 she has been invited back to continue photographing the internationally acclaimed festival.

Sara has dedicated her time professionally by educating photojournalism ethics though her six year commitment to the North Carolina Press Photographers Association as their contest chairman and teaching rising photographers in local high schools. It is important to Sara for the industry to follow the necessary guidelines which need to be maintained in order to be true to the content and the viewer during the digital age.

As a full-time freelance photographer, Sara is available for your editorial or corporate needs. She currently resides in Durham, North Carolina.
